Since this site was sold, the new owner of VirtualDN has lost interest. But I got a response from him! We're in talks right now.

About the Whole Concept

VirtualDN is unique - for now. We've recieved many "threats" I guess you could say claiming possible clone sites in the future. Clone sites are websites which copy a unique concept and twist it to make it better. This is similar to the Million Dollar Homepage idea. There were at least 100 clone sites within a month.

Why the threat? It's a new idea that was never actually set into action before. Here's some advice: When you get an idea, whether good or bad, DO IT! You never know your results. In fact... this is the most popular site in the Matt's Projects E-Network, a quickly growing hub for Internet developments and scripts.

(On a personal note, I hope I don't seem like I'm bragging - I'm not. I've never had more than $xx in my PayPal account, so don't think I'm making tons from this site, or ANY site of mine for that matter.)

I've seen numerous domain industry newcomers enter the market, spending their initial $25 on poor names, getting no sales or good appraisals, then quitting after great disappointment. Who wants that!? Surely I do not - and you would not want to be one of those people. I almost was one of them...

So my idea? I love helping people - and instead of helping each member indivdually (which I still do), I decided that I want to make a way for mass amounts of people (even pros!) help themselves and "practice", if you will, on their own. Surely saves ME a lot of time. (Heh, no offense.)

You see them all the time - virtual pet sites, virtual stock markets, virtual role playing games, virtual baseball tournaments, but no virtual domain industry? How odd. I was rather surprised, so I found my solution - make a virtual domain name economy. A way for members to practice buying, selling, and even developing their domains for cash - but not real cash - which eventually comes to these many positive results from playing the simulation:
- An increased understanding of the real domain industry
- Better knoweldge and skill in the art of website development
- Improved respect for the quality of thriftiness
- The likely possibility of having earned revenue from properly placed ads and other met criteria
- A portfolio to present to the world
- Free, basic website hosting, or cheap quality PHP & MySQL support hosting
- Lots of fun
- Meeting new people
- Developing a sense of professionalism as you practice negotiating deals and business plans
- Many new vocabulary words
- Less-frequent times of boredom at home
- The fun of owning great domains you can develop sites with
- Grow your pride into something people will respect in the real industry
Lots of great, positive results, eh! There's NO negatives! Unless, of course, you are already a filthy rich person that doesn't have time for a virtual economy. I doubt that's likely.

So where is the concept going? Who knows. Some speculate it will stay the same. Others suspect members will fall away and not sell their premium domains, killing the economy and the interest of the site. Even others suggest it will evolve into a more and more competant and valuable mini-Internet, and a great resource with a thriving economy.

I count on the latter.
